Saturday, January 31, 2009 Dine out Vancouver Christmas is over, the decorations packed away, people back at work, and Dine out Vancouver is happening again. When we received the introductory email from Tourism Vancouver, advertising for the event we were actually shocked to see that the menus in all three price categories will be increased by $3.00. I believe this was an extremely poor decision on parts of all parties involved. Given the current economical situation we only made one reservation. It was for a Saturday night at the Blue Water Cafe. It's our favorite Dine out hang out. The food is never a disappointment. The waiter we had this year was way too presumptuous. He made the decision to substitute an oyster instead of asking Klaus what he actually would prefer to have. He was also very impatient as if he had places to go and not really time to look after us.
Yesterday we eat for the first time at the Copper Chimney at Le Soleil Hotel. The restaurant has a cozy bistro-style decor. It looks very European even though this probably was not the intention at all, as it is an Indian restaurant. I opted not to go with the Dine out menu and ordered the crab cakes. What a delight they were! They are full of Indian aromas, a totally unexpected mix. A true competitor to Joe Forte's crab cakes. Klaus had the menu and not only was it extremely good, but the portions were big. We also went to Aria at the Westin across the street. The food was very good but the portions more geared towards a lady's luncheon than a dinner. [ back to top ] Friday, January 23, 2009 Good bye
On my way home after the WBO meeting. It was a gorgeous foggy night. For a change I photographed the Vancouver Art Gallery. On the above image is the illuminated roof of my favorite subject, the hotel Vancouver. [ back to top ] Saturday, January 17, 2009 Queen Elizabeth Garden

[ back to top ] Saturday, January 3, 2009 SNOW! Well, turns out there was one more snowfall. I think this will be it for this season. But maybe, just maybe, there will be one more dump. On English Bay The dog here was on an endless leash. The gate at St. Andrew's-Wesley United Church. Unfortunately the church was locked. I came across here at an intersection. By the time I was ready to shoot the light turned green. So I had to follow here for a couple of blocks until I had an image with not too much background and the word "CANADA" visible. This sculpture is at the Law Courts. I have no idea who the artist is. Can't find it on the internet either. I guess one day I just have to go back there and check for a sign. Hotel Vancouver with the shadow of the Shangri-La in the background A window at the Hotel Vancouver I always wonder... what's happening behind windows...

...the forecast for tomorrow is more snow. I have my camera, all 3 lenses and my new toy the Gorillapod ready. There better be snow otherwise I will be like a little kid who did not get any gifts for Christmas! [ back to top ] |
About 2012
2011 2010 2009 2008 2007 Photography is a way of feeling, of touching, of loving. What you have caught on film is captured forever... it remembers little things, long after you have forgotten everything.
