Sunday, June 28, 2009 Burning down the house
We went for a pre-dinner drink across the street. So I took the garbage down and left the empty bin on the stove top. As we came home after less than 3 hours, we open the door and smell rubber or plastic. We wonder around the apartment and as we are about to come to the conclusion that the stench has to come from the outside, we realized, that the plastic garbage container has no more bottom. It melted as 2 of the elements were on. How that happened is a mystery to me, but it must have happened as I removed the garbage from the bin.
Good thing nothing caught fire. The bin was obviously made from fire resistant plastic. The open wine bottle next to the stove lost the cork. The counter top all around was warm. The cabinets were warm. The avocado now was ripe too..! Lucky us, only the bin got destroyed. [ back to top ] Saturday, June 27, 2009 At my garden
[ back to top ] Friday, June 19, 2009 Same street opposite direction Tonight I drove a leisurely 80 while on my way home on Cambie Street and people were passing me... [ back to top ] Saturday, June 13, 2009 79 Driving down on Cambie, all new pavement enjoying the sun and Blue Rodeo. Then I see the radar gun attached to a police officer and I know: meine Stunde hat geschlagen. Officer: "Do you know what the speed limit is on Cambie Street?" Moi totally convinced and confident: "60." Officer: "Close, but no it's 50. And this was your speed." He then shows me the display of his radar gun which has the number 79 on it. The usual follows, handing over drivers licence and insurance papers. He goes away. I was glad he did not ask me why I was driving so fast because I would have had to tell him that I like to drive fast. While I am waiting for him to process the ticket I started wondering and wishing that please don't let it be more than $350.00. So he comes back and asks me if I ever had a speeding ticket before. Yes sir I did many years ago. He then starts explaining that the law has changed and now the base penalty is $138.00. Then there is a $30.00 increase for every 20km over the limit. Bottom line my ticket was $198.00. BUT, the officer was a very, very nice man! He said given my clean driving record he will let me go with the $138.00. And should I pay within 2 weeks, it's another $25.00 less. I was not listening anymore, as I just considered myself lucky! Oh and one more thing: he never called me mam. Note to self: sometimes, but only sometimes wife should listen to husband. About 2010
2009 2008 2007 Photography is a way of feeling, of touching, of loving. What you have caught on film is captured forever... it remembers little things, long after you have forgotten everything.
