DAILY FLICKR PICKR DAY 522 - on Vancouver is awesome
Every day we share a single photo from our Flickr Pool shot by one of our faithful and talented readers (that’s you!)
Officially, summer in the Northern Hemisphere has begun. More importantly, summer in Vancouver has officially begun. The longest day of the year, the Summer Solstice, happened yesterday and in the case of the year’s longest day we certainly had a fantastic one. There were so many interesting photos submitted to the pool from yesterday that you might see a few more featured here as this week moves along – but today we will start with an image from Esther Schönwandt.
Esther shares with us a photograph a darkened Stanley Park shortly after sunset last night, and I was captivated by its sereneness – yes, that is in fact a word. And since we are speaking about words, I can only read, write and speak ones that are presented to me in one language – English. So in preparing for my post today I had to use the interweb to help me translate the title of Esther’s image: Szenenwechel. Translated from German, it means ‘scene change’.

Kissing couple
This has to be by now the most famous riot image. It's a Vancouver girl that got knocked over by a police shield. And her Australian boyfriend checking if she is ok.

The day after

I took a walk around the city tonight. Countless store windows were boarded up and not just from large department stores but also smaller businesses. Most boards were full with messages from people trying to find a way to cope with what had happened. And also to express that this is not what Canucks fans are all about.

Heartbroken

It all started as any hockey night at Jimmy's. Except tonight we all stood up to sing o Canada with so much pride we were all convinced that the Canucks will win.
In the end the better team won. Congrats Boston! It was 63 days of one hell of a ride and then it came to this unbelievable end with idiots from the villages coming downtown to riot - win or loose.

The above images were shot from inside Jimmy's. The game was over, we were in total disbelieve about the loss and then the riots started.
Our house is on the image just above to the far left.

Sick in bed
Too many parties, not enough sleep. Oh yeah, it was another bullshit game..! 5:2 or whatever.
According to Bar Watch sports bars are reporting 60% increase on sales. No wonder. The playoffs have been going on for almost two months. And the further we got the harder it was to get a seat.
And no matter if we won or lost, usually at around 10PM I receive a text from LLB to go and celebrate. Of course! This is my first Stanley Cup playoff finals.

Photography is a way of feeling, of touching, of loving. What you have caught on film is captured forever... it remembers little things, long after you have forgotten everything.
