No Telus service

No Internet connection at this end of the world since Thursday night. And since we are having a long weekend I don't think getting the connection back up is high on the Telus priority list. Since Thursday we are getting the same lame taped advisory when calling tech support. I am almost certain that nothing will change until Tuesday.

Monday, September 1: still no connection...

Tuesday, September 2: back online...! A letter to Telus is on its way.

No connection to me not only means no possibility of getting emails or doing any work for clients, it also totally changes my morning routine. After I get up in the morning I read my emails, go online read a weblog, and then the news on a German online magazine.

A snippet from the letter; this is regarding the same lame taped updates we listened to over the past four days: "...Telus made us feel like incompetent people oblivious to all things technical instead of telling us what is really happening..."

Canadian Tire rip-off

Yesterday I had the four tires of my car replaced. I did a little research in regards of prices. The cheapest tires I found at Canadian Tire for $32.99 compared to the highest of $60.00. I decided to go to Canadian Tire even though they do not take reservations and I had to drive all the way out to Surrey.

Anyway, the tires were installed, I paid my bill without looking at it, because the clerk was very secretive about the invoice. Once I was back in my car, I thought I have a quick look at the items I was charged. And sure enough there was something called "Free Tire Replac. Cert." for $24.00 listed. I went back inside the shop and told the clerk, that I found an item on my bill which I do not wish to purchase. It turned out to be some kind of extended warranty for the tires. Shame on you Canadian Tire!

Extended warranty is just about the biggest scam of the retail industry. When I get asked at a reputable store if I would like to purchase the extended warranty, it makes me always wonder: what is wrong with this product that they are trying to sell me even more warranty…? So far I never purchased any extended warranty. And I don't think I would have ever needed it for any of the products in our household.

Captured by its beauty and talent

A flash of folly, a leap of ecstasy, a burst of wonder: Yesterday we went to see Alegria by Cirque du Soleil. It was unlike any show we have ever seen before. It was magical, captivating, beautiful sets and costumes, unbelievable performances, and great music.

If you are looking for magic, go see Alegria!
