Sony Cybershot DSC-F828 - my dream machine! [ back to top ] Wednesday, October 15, 2003 Watch it - it's funny! [ back to top ] Thanksgiving, October 13, 2003 Love On Friday I was talking to a gentleman from Germany. He was in his late sixties early seventies. He caught my friend's attention because he wore an old Zeiss camera around his neck. Since the gentleman did not speak any English I was the communicator between my friend and him. He told us that this was his first trip to Canada to visit his brother who lives here for over forty years. The obvious question from us was why he did not come to Canada earlier. He said that his brother visits Germany on a regular basis and that his wife, who just recently died, did not want to travel by plane. As soon as he mentioned his wife he had to fight back his tears. He then left us. A moment later he came back and told us that he was with his wife for over forty years. Once again he had to fight his tears and he left us standing. I said to my friend, isn't that the ultimate display of a real love and years of happiness. As hard as the time must be for this gentleman right now, we were both sure that he and his wife had a life together filled with love and respect. It must have been, and still is, a great love. Beautiful! [ back to top ] Wednesday, October 1, 2003 Here is an interresting paragraph. It's from Tod Maffin's Future File. The Employment Power Shift By 2006, two people will be leaving jobs for every one available to refill those positions. Two years after that, projections show a worker deficit of 10 million people. This will radically shift the balance of power between employees and companies, and firms will have to compete to acquire talent. At the same time, work-life balance issues will become ever prominent in the media. Workers will begin interviewing companies and among the perks increasingly demanded will be those that reflect a growing understanding of the importance of sabbaticals, “mental health days,” and paid leave to care for aging parents. Companies which maintain their current h.r. practices of a set number of holiday weeks and limited time-off options will find themselves at the bottom of prospective employee lists. [ back to top ] |
