Friday, September 30, 2005 How much is too much? There is a domain name that I am after for several years. Actually there are two but the other one is registered until 2010. Therefor never mind that one. The other is available - for sale. It's listed at $750'000. So I send them an email asking how much they realistically want. After all, the dot com craze is long over! The response was, make us an offer. I did exactly that and offered $750. That's not good enough for them. They want $7500. They even offer a payment plan. I was willing to go up to $1500 but not much higher than that. I know, if the Google revenue will be anything like with the Christmas Magazine, then I will easily earn that money back and then start earning a profit. But a web site does not start making money right away. Furthermore I will have to invest money to develop content. No content no visitors. No visitors no money. I will get back to them after the weekend. In the end, it's all about vanity... [ back to top ] Thursday, September 29, 2005 Dilemma A couple of days ago I received a note telling me that our next class reunion will be at the beginning of June, 2006. Now that really does not work with my schedule, as I do not want to fly to Switzerland in June and then again in August. Never mind cheap tickets, flying is such a drag. And also since I wanted to surprise my dad for his 70th birthday, how do I explain to him, that I come for a class reunion with my elementary school buddies but not to his birthday...? Well, all is well. The class reunion has been moved to August! [ back to top ] Friday, September 23, 2005 My beloved Klaus welcomes me and says: "Oh, haircut?!" [ back to top ] Tuesday, September 20, 2005 Worst drivers The worst drivers in this city are van drivers. A large percentage of them has no feel for the size of their (ugly) car and a lot of them drive as if they own the road. [ back to top ] Sunday, September 18, 2005 Eating out - here and there We had dinner last night at some tacky Italian restaurant on West 4th. By tacky I mean the interior decorations. The food is simple but very good. As we were waiting for our dinner, I noticed that the waitress brought two doggy bags to the table next to us. The unusual part for us Europeans is, that quite a few people were still eating their dinner. In Vancouver the plates get cleared as soon as one is done with eating, no matter if the other guests barely started with their meals. This is just not a good way to do it as it puts the pressure on the remaining people to eat faster. In Switzerland it's very often the other extreme. Everybody has long finished the meal and is still sitting in front of the dirty plates. I don't like that either.

Now here is something the Germans, that includes Klaus, are in total denial about: one day the Grosse Kanton will become reality! Once we are in total control of the postal system, we take over the Bundesliga. My new baby is being produced right now. 10MP! I never got this camera. I had a look at it in December at the Sony store. The look alone turned me off. Also it did not have enough new features to justify a new camera. Oh, and no more movie making... I barely use that feature but it is nice to know that I am able to take movies. The first image is of Browning Lake on the Sea to Sky highway. The next two images are of the Furry Creek golf course in Squamish. And finally some train tracks that run up to Whistler. I drove to Squamish for lunch today. It was a beautiful drive. [ back to top ] |
