Big hoopla

In about 30 minutes flight Vancouver 2010 will arrive in Vancouver. The flight was renamed once it reached Canadian airspace. Major Sam Sullivan is on board with the Olympic flag. This has been announced on the news all day. Well, Mr. Sullivan's bag will not be on board. Let's hope he carried the flag on board, because the flag is supposed to be raised tomorrow at city hall.

PS: not only was Sam's suitcase missing but also his wheelchair. Poor guy.

It's over

I had the job interview today. It was conducted by a panel of four. They asked me a total of 12 questions which I was kind of able to answer. Then they had a little task, as they called it, for me. I was supposed to write a little bulletin on the union's stand on profit sharing... I was about to throw in the towel as I have no clue what so ever. But then I decided to not say anything just now. After all they gave me 30 minutes to write it. I used the time to come up with something. I wonder how bad it was... Oh well!

Swiss shock Canadian men 2-0

In a game that was supposed to be a warm-up for tougher opponents, Switzerland shocked the Canadian men's hockey team 2-0 at the Torino Olympics Saturday morning.

Eisgenossen gelingt zweites Hockey-Wunder

Another job opportunity

We found out today that our customer service manager and boss of seven years has been promoted to GM and is moving to Fort Lauderdale. We all are quite shocked about the announcement. But life already has gone on. I went to see the regional director of our company asking if I would have a shot at the position. He said sure. Put your application in. Now I have to revamp my union resume to make it management material.

On Sunday I went shopping for a business suit for the upcoming interview on Saturday. I found this gorgeous suit at Holt Renfrew, which was unfortunately way out of my price range. Klaus' comment was, it's a beautiful suit, but you are applying for an union position. So after I talked to my boss this morning, confirming her departure, I called Klaus telling him, that I should have gotten the power-suit!

PS: did not apply for the above position.

And of course, it's Valentine's!

I don't want any money..!

After the incoherent and tacky opening ceremony of the Torino Olympic Games, I send the guys from VANOC an email voicing my concerns. After all it will be us the taxpayers footing the bill. The Opening and Closing Ceremonies in Torino apparently cost $46 million. My suggestion was to put the guys from Cirque du Soleil in charge. We don't want a tacky show but magic.

To my surprise I already received an answer:

VANOC cannot accept any unsolicited proposals, suggestions or ideas regarding the creative aspects of the 2010 Winter Games, in order to protect the legal and commercial rights of both VANOC (as the recipient of proposals) and you (as a producer of creative work). When we are ready to begin accepting submissions, we will post further information on our website, and we encourage you to check it on a regular basis.

I forwarded my grandios idea to the Cirque people.

Hello all,
I am a BIG Cirque du Soleil fan. And I am really happy about the fact that since a few years Vancouver is on your touring map as well.
After having watched the Opening Ceremony of the Torino Olympic Games, I as a taxpayer had some concerns. I don't want to slam the Torino ceremony, I am sure all people responsible worked very hard on the concept. As a TV viewer I just found the spectacle very incoherent. That got me thinking: why not put the artists of the Cirque du Soleil in charge and have them create some magic for Canada.
I forwarded that idea to the people of the VANOC. Unfortunately they are not able to accept unsolicited proposals.
I am sure your team should be able to put a proposal forward if that is something that fits into your business plan. After all your circus is known throughout the world and it would be just fantastic.
Well, in the meantime I look forward to see VAREKAI on July 1.
Love your work! Best regards,
Esther
