Christmas market in a box

chocolates

I had to go and pick up a package at the post office today. I thought it's the snow globes I ordered. But it was much better than that! Susanne sent me a Christmas market in a box! The box contained a Düsseldorf mug, Glühwein packages, biscuits, gebrannte Mandeln (I just love those!), an Indian notebook and pen, plus a large box of chocolates! What a great idea! It will go into this year's Advent calendar. So sweet.

Black out

West restaurant

Dine out Vancouver is on for the 5th time. As always we like to take advantage of the event and visit restaurants that we would not visit on a regular basis. Tonight we had a 5.45 PM reservation at West. I was making fun of the fact that only old people would have dinner reservations at such an early time.

As we drove down the Granville Rise traffic got really heavy and was barely moving because some of the traffic lights were out.

When we entered the restaurant we were told that they are not running on full power and that we should be patient.

We enjoyed our excellent main course when all of a sudden everything went dark but the candle on each table. Then our waiter came and told us that we were the lucky ones and still get dessert. A few minutes later our waiter came with the desserts which were heavenly. Eventually our waiter came again and told us that we do not have to pay for dinner tonight because of the inconvenience of the power outage.

Well of course we did not start an argument with our waiter but we also did not suffer any inconvenience at all. We had an outstanding dinner, excellent service, the chef's table... Thank you West!

Aenne Burda Award

screen shot - Caterina Fake

Taken from Focus Online

I know famous people!

Christmas is over

Today the Christmas holidays are officially came to a close. Klaus gave me a Starbucks gift card for Christmas. And as everybody knows Starbucks products are overpriced and some also overrated. This is why I usually bring my own coffee to work. But having gotten that gift card I enjoyed my Starbucks coffee (small size and regular flavor) with a chocolate croissant. But the chocolate croissant luxury is now over. As of today I am back on my much healthier but also much less appealing granola bar breakfast.

Jackpot

On the way to work I thought I hit the jackpot! A dealership on Marine Drive had a 2004 Mercedes CL or SL, silver for less than $5,000.00 on their front lawn. So I called them up asking if that beauty is still available and what was wrong with the car. "Hahaha ma’am, with all the wind we are having a number sign must have blown away blah blah blah…" After our little banter about dead bodies in the trunk and a drug dealer having owned the car he asked me if there is anything I would be interested in. I told him that I am in the market for a BMW convertible. But I don't think he took me serious. His loss because as I am looking for a BMW convertible.

Buying software

After having put the renewal of the anti virus licence on the back burner for two weeks I had to pay the price for that sloppiness today. I actually had to go and buy an operating system. Klaus' comment was: deserves you right for unsafe computing. $149.00 for Windows XP Pro is a small price to pay for being able to keep all my work.

Snow

winter

I took this image this morning. Klaus just called and said that there is no way for him to make it onto Knight Street Bridge. He is stuck in Richmond because he had to drop off his car for service.

Schlagzeile

New Year's Day, 2007

Ein neues Buch, ein neues Jahr
Theodor Fontane (1819–1898)

Ein neues Buch, ein neues Jahr
Was werden die Tage bringen?
Wird's werden, wie es immer war,
Halb scheitern, halb gelingen?
