Wednesday, March 28, 2007 The chief's budget Vancouver traffic cops are very predictable. They like to work outdoors on sunny days. They are also most often seen with their radar guns towards the end of the month. I imagine the chief of police is going over his budget and when he sees that the target has not been met he sends his boys out with the motorcycles and radar guns. Sunny Sundays are dangerous days too. It must be the frustration of having to work on Sundays that motivates them to make other people's life miserable as well. I got so lucky yesterday because the driver in front of me became the speeding victim. Today I knew not to drive more than 60 in the 50 zone. And sure enough they were there again. Maybe tomorrow I should get them a cup of coffee and donuts for their hard work. [ back to top ] Sunday, March 25, 2007 If one could only capture the tender smell of spring...

[ back to top ] Wednesday, March 21, 2007 Murder She Said (1961) One evening more than 30 years ago our parents went out and we were told as always to stay in bed and sleep. Of course we did not do that. As always we got up and turned on the TV. We started watching a Miss Marple movie. But the movie got too scary for us that we decided to turn off the TV and go to bed. As a result I grabbed my bedding and slept on the floor in my brothers' room. This by the way was the only time ever were we turned off the TV way before our parents were expected to be home. Ever so often I would think of that evening and wonder how that movie ended. The suspense came to an end last night. After that many decades I finally was able to record and watch the movie. I will for sure burn it and keep it as a souvenir. [ back to top ] Saturday, March 17, 2007 Vacation We are invited to an August wedding in Cologne. Good thing we still have a return journey left on British Airways. That's of course courtesy of that f... up trip we had last summer. Our return trip back to Europe was booked for May 31. We had no intention to travel this year because we wanted to invest the money in a new bathroom and only go to New York and Montreal this year. But Christoph, Klaus' only cousin (!!! I have about 30...), invited us to his wedding on August 24. I was on hold with Expedia for about an hour today and was not able to get through and change the tickets. That's when I decided to call the airport and talk to the BA ticketing supervisor, a colleague of mine. She changed the flight and did it for free. Thanks a lot! Then I booked a trip from Berlin to Vancouver return on Expedia. This was much cheaper than booking from here return. Now we hope that the trip will go well otherwise we have to listen to Marco again giving us shit because we did not book a straight Vancouver return... The morning commute on Mondays is always the worst except it's a rainy day. It rains so much here but still people can not drive properly when it rains. Anyway today was barely any traffic. I wonder if this is because we changed to daylight savings time yesterday, three weeks early. [ back to top ] Saturday, March 10, 2007 It's raining, it's pouring Klaus was teaching today so I joined him for lunch downtown. I brought the camera but it was difficult to take pictures as it was raining so hard.

This morning we were all surprised by a snow covered city. Nachwinter Prosaskizzen von Peter Altenberg (1859-1919) 9. März. Mein 53. Geburtstag. Geburtstag. [ back to top ] |
