Friday Evening, May 18, 2007 Happy birthday!
Jeanne and Grahme Happy birthday Grahme, Klaus, Esther, and Max! [ back to top ] Friday, May 17, 2007 Carnations The other day we were at Flora's house. She had this colorful bouquet of flowers on the table. One of the flowers was totally white. I was fascinated by it. I asked her where she got the flowers from. She replied that Chris bought them for her. Oh nice! Then Chris said that he buys her flowers on a regular basis. And that the flowers are carnations. Chris naming the flowers made us all laugh. I asked Klaus how come he never buys me any flowers. He said that he would love to buy flowers but that I always buy flowers. That's true. I buy a lot of flowers especially in the spring. Then he added: "I just bought you a new camera..." Ok, you win, I shut up now! [ back to top ] Thursday, May 17, 2007 Can't let it go Today I tried to find something to eat for lunch at 7-Eleven. I picked what looked like a tuna sandwich but turned out to be a chicken salad sandwich. Sitting there and eating my lunch of course I had to read the nutrition info. It again shocked me! It was a 218 gram sandwich that contained the following percentages of your recommended daily intake: 62% fat!!! The sandwich itself was way too salty. I only eat half of it because it was borderline uneatable for my taste. That just confirms one of this weeks news items that Canadians could cut their health care costs by billions if only we would cut back our salt intake. The food in question was processed food. I never understood this alliance. Looks like I was not the only one. [ back to top ] Sunday, May 13, 2007 Daily value I am (passive) advocate to not print any nutrition information on luxury food such as fine Lindt chocolate or Häagen-Dazs ice cream. Last week I enjoyed a Häagen-Dazs during each afternoon coffee break. On the third day I read the nutrition information on the back of the box. That's when I almost fell off my chair. One single ice cream contains 49% of the daily recommended fat intake. Wholly shit! Yesterday after dinner I had a row of Lindt dark chocolate. It was from a large block (300 grams) of chocolate. Again I checked the info on the back. Four squares contain 15% of the daily recommended fat intake. Some evenings I eat two rows of chocolate... Seeing that the chocolate also contains fibre, calcium, and iron it offsets the fat and makes it all healthy. [ back to top ] Saturday, May 12, 2007 Van Dusen Gardens

We were invited for dinner at a friend's house last Saturday. I took my small camera with me just in case. At first I did not regret it is as their garden in West Vancouver was in full bloom. I shot some images of our hosts and finally of Lucy the racoon who visits every evening because she is being fed cat food. Since Klaus and I both had too much to drink in order to drive home we called the driver's service. Once in the car I tried to find my camera to have a look at the images. No success! The next day I called our hosts. They turned their house upside down and were not able to find it either. I almost went nuts trying to figure out how a camera can just disappear. I also think the loss has little to do with the material loss and much more with the fact that that little thing gave me so much satisfaction with all those beautiful images it took. I think because a camera is a vehicle to creative expression losing it is such a terrible thing. [ back to top ] |
