Since last year fall Cambie Street in Vancouver is a major construction site. We are finally getting a rapid transit system connecting Richmond, the airport and downtown. Something cities around the world have put in decades ago. Apparently the subject of rapid transit was raised in Vancouver for the first time in the sixties. But the city must still have been very small and sleepy and therefore nobody saw the need for it. That we are finally getting the much needed system was probably triggered by the Olympics. Whatever finally brought us to par with the world it is an absolutely fascinating project to witness. It's also amazing how fast construction progresses. Despite the heavy construction on Cambie Street, I still use that corridor to commute. There is very little traffic volume because everybody seems to avoid that area. What totally goes on my nerves though are the people that can not handle a street full of pylons, caution signs, 40 km/hr speed limit (suggestion…). And of course one shall not forget those people who drive into the city on weekends, with the wife on the passenger seat, and showing her the progress of construction while rolling at a speed of maybe 30. Singapore Airlines will fly the new Airbus from Singapore to Sydney. That flight is about seven and a half hours and a return ticket in the Suites class is a bit more than $7'000.00. [ back to top ] Wednesday, October 10, 2007 The highest level of incompetence Five weeks ago I tried to order ink for the cheap Dell printer I have in my office. I tried to place the order online. That turned out to be impossible because my work address is longer than what they provide with their form fields. So I called and talked to Elvis (or Dellvis) who works and lives in India. He was majorly confused because my address changed. Since people do move on occasion in Canada I did not put too much thought into his puzzlement. After a week I was still waiting for my ink cartridges and called the Dell people. I was told that my order was delivered to somebody. He was nice enough to reject the order because he probably has a better printer than a Dell. To keep an extremely long story short it turned out that my order and credit card was used for somebody else's order. How this happened is beyond me. I have been making countless phone calls to Dell's customer care department. Unfortunately nobody not even the highly incompetent managers cared. They all gave me the same lame excuse, and that my money would be refunded within two to three days. Many two to three days later I had enough and wrote out the story and sent it to Dell in Mississauga, to the Ontario Better Business Bureau and I called MasterCard to put a "stop payment" on the charge from September 5. Yesterday I had a message on the answering machine from J. with Dell asking me to call him. So I did call Mr. Überchipper this morning. The only reason why he actually took the time to talk to me was because he received my complaint from the Better Business Bureau. After hours spent on the phone waiting, Dell has yet to offer as much as a free ink cartridge for the hassle I went through and the hours spent waiting on the phone. This right there shows that they could not care less about their customers. Kudos to the people at the Better Business Bureau and thank you! [ back to top ] |
About 2010
2009 2008 2007 Photography is a way of feeling, of touching, of loving. What you have caught on film is captured forever... it remembers little things, long after you have forgotten everything.
